Lavoy Allen E-mail

Background: Allen really started to gain the recruiting world’s eyes after an impressive showing in various AAU events following his junior year. With his national profile raised to a top 150, three star recruit, Allen had a good amount of colleges vying for his services. Temple, St. Joseph’s LaSalle and Rutgers all had school visits from the talented forward. Initially, Rutgers looked like the team to beat, as the bigger Big East conference and campus impressed Allen, but in the end the allure of getting big minutes and staying close to home all seemed too much to turn down as Temple gained his commitment.

Allen enjoyed a successful senior year at Pennsbury, averaging 13.0 points, 9.6 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game while earning Pennsylvania’s All-Southeastern second team honors. During these past three years Allen has brought stability, hustle and toughness to a program in transition after long time hall of fame coach, Jon Chaney, retired. Allen was a starter from day one on campus and he will leave the school as a 1,000 point scorer and as one of its all time leaders in rebounding. Allen declared for the 2010 NBA draft after putting up a double-double in points and rebounds per game. The last time a Temple basketball player achieved that feat was 39-years ago with Ollie Johnson. After receiving feedback from NBA teams the All-Atlantic-10 conference first teamer Allen withdrew from the draft to play his final season of college ball.
