Robert Sacre E-mail
  • Name: Robert Sacre
  • Position: Center
  • Height: 7-0 (2.13m)
  • Weight: 250 (113kg)
  • College Team: Gonzaga Bulldogs
  • Nationality: Canadian
  • Birthplace: Vancouver, Canada
  • Birthdate: 6/6/1989
  • Drafted: Selected by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round (60th pick overall) of 2012 NBA Draft.

Background: Sacre is the son of two former LSU athletes. His mother, Leslie Sacre, played basketball and his father, Greg LaFleur, was a tight end for the football team.

Basketball was anything but easy for Sacre in his early years. During what would be his freshmen and sophomore years, Sacre teamed up with Tyler Kepkay (Utah) to lead Handsworth to a league championship, but many have said it was Kepkay, not Sacre, who was the star of the team. Two years later the raw big man showed vast improvement as a force in the paint and one of Canada’s biggest recruits. His progress continued as exceptional play in AAU and Adidas basketball camps signaled his ascension as not only one of Canada’s top talents, but an emerging top 100 red chip prospect in America. UCLA, Washington, Oregon State and Gonzaga all battled to gain his commitment. But it was Gonzaga, in yet another sign of the programs rise, beating off impressive high major schools for Sacre’s verbal.

As a senior at Handsworth, Sacre averaged 25 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks per game. His transition into collegiate hoops has been anything but smooth or quick, as many hoped. After being redshirted his first year, Sacre was nothing more than a backup to Josh Heytvelt. In his sophomore year he a suffered stress fracture in his right foot, which then leading to a medical redshirt. His first year of meaningful minutes Sacre earned the starting position and did not relent as he lead the team in blocks while adding a stabilizing force in the paint.
