Tar Heels Deserve to Lose E-mail

By Eric G., TDR Blogger

Yeah, yeah, you read the headline right. Now please don’t shoot and throw me in a shallow grave.

I've got big problems with the Tar Heels’ 83-82 clincher over Georgia Tech, and while I give props to Danny Green and Tyler Hansbrough for putting my team over the top in the final seconds of the game, the sad truth is that the ACC's last ranked Yellow Jackets outplayed the Heels.

There were some bad calls by the refs in Georgia Tech’s favor, and Matt Causey’s moments of wild, uncontrolled play should have been put in check, but that’s not the real reason the score was virtually neck and neck the entire night. The current state of Carolina’s defense and unwillingness to get more aggressive on rebounding (except for Hansbrough of course) is a budding embarrassment that may soon dethrone UNC as the #1 ranked team and ultimately cost them a shot at the Championship (are you listening Deon Thompson?).

So I say lose now, get a reality check and step it up, Tar Heels. But PLEASE don’t play like this against Duke. I don’t think my Carolina Blue heart could take it.
