Strengths: Taylor has a solid grasp on the fundamentals of the game … Possesses legit NBA 3-point range that he can make with regularity … Has improved greatly setting up defenders with hesitations and fakes to get into the lane … Offensively, Taylor is a patient player who allows the game to come to him … Understands how to utilize the mid-range jumper when shooting off the dribble … Defensively, he shows good effort, toughness, and effective athleticism … Quality free throw shooter … Taylor’s high basketball IQ and good decision making enable him to play error-free ball on most occasions … Displays strong upper body strength that prevent him from getting pushed around easily … Excellent finisher in transition with the body strength and decent leaping ability to finish in traffic … Does a good job of using screens to get open looks at the basket … Locker room guy who is a quality person off the court … Has a solid work ethic and, more importantly, the desire to improve … Decent ball handler who has the ability to bring the ball up the court or lead the fast break … Unselfish player who consistently plays within a team concept with no problem … Displays excellent mechanics with a quick release, capable of needing little time to get his shot off …
Weaknesses: Failed to play up to the expectations that many placed on him this year … Some of this has to do with his inability to be aggressive and confident during the course of a game … Seems to almost disappear at times and does not demand the ball as much as he should … On the college level he has become a solid defender, but will have to improve his lateral quickness in the NBA … Struggles at times when defending guards with length and athleticism, but to his credit he does better when he has time to pick-up on opposing players’ tendencies … Still learning how to create off the dribble consistently … Lacks the explosiveness to be a quality rebounder … Height will lead some to question if he would be more useful as a combo guard, switching between the guard positions, but this will require improvement on ball protection and court vision … Hasn’t been as good this year moving without the ball, which could be due in part to Oregon’s inconsistent point guard play … This lack of activity has severely limited his ability to draw fouls and get to the free throw line … Seems too content deferring scoring to teammates rather than demanding the ball, which his talent level and senior status should command … Lacks the first step to get full separation from defenders if his assignment doesn’t bite on his fakes …
