Marcus, your grandfather, Kendall Mayfield, #14 is one of the greatest basketball players in Tuskegee and SIAC history. In 1971 he scored 20 points against Clark, 41 points against Alabama State, 32 points against Knoxville, 31 points against Clark, 31 points against Miles, 45 points against Alabama State, 47 points against Savannah State and more. If the basketball was in that left hand “you could count that.”
He played with James “Bartow” Hill, Sterling Spencer, Robert “Flip” Wilson, Leroy Holmes, James Boleware, Sam Murray and A. J. Jones.
In 1999 he was selected for the Tuskegee University Athletics Hall of Fame. No one who saw him play would challenge the validity of his selection.

Kendall was a great ball player. He played for TU with my brother Jerome Thurmon (RIH). I attended Kenwood grammar school, in Chicago with his sister Marilyn Mayfield.
