roots The Draft Review - The Draft ReviewBrother: Markieff Morris

Background: Like most twin combinations throughout the years, Marcus and Markieff Morris played with each other throughout their entire basketball careers. Marcus Morris, with his twin by his side, raised his profile after his sophomore year, playing AAU ball in various events, at the end of his junior year Marcus and Markieff committed to the University of Memphis. Meanwhile, both brothers wrapped up a nice high school career at Penn Charter, taking the school to back to back state titles. Shortly after the commitment, the Morris twins began to waiver on their pledge to Memphis, and instead put college on hold for a year of prep school to better prepare for college.

At the beginning of the prep year three schools were on the list for Marcus and his brother: Villanova, Kansas and St. John’s, but shortly after their Midnight Madness visit, the twins committed to Kansas, citing a winning tradition and adequate playing time for both brothers.

At APEX Academy, Marcus averaged 24.8 points and 8.0 rebounds per game while earning a spot on the prestigious Jordan Brand game. The top 25 blue chip recruit had a solid freshman year, but failed to display his perimeter skills as he primarily played the low post. Yet Marcus’ sophomore year proved to be extremely fruitful as his confidence, versatile ball handling and perimeter shooting came to the forefront. Marcus could easily find himself a top 10 NBA draft pick, as some believe him to possess Antoine Walker skill with a better post game.
