nba The Draft Review - The Draft Review

Strengths: One of the best rebounders in the draft who does a great job boxing out or rebounding out of position … Physically, Gransberry has a strong upper body which allows him to absorb contact and finish with ease … Post up game has improved significantly; he now shows the ability to perform an up and under move or beat his defender with a decent turnaround jumper … Post footwork looks refined and fluid … Because of his strength and sheer size, Gransberry is able to establish position in the post with little effort … Plays admirable post defense using his body to deny his man good post position … Possesses above average lateral movement for someone his size … Rarely tries to play above his head; understands what his main qualities are and doesn’t try to go outside of them … Owns unique hands that are strong enough to snatch and hold rebounds, but soft enough to catch passes thrown into the post without a problem … Aggressive post player who gets more than his fair share of contact, which can lead to foul issues for his defender … Has done a great job of toning up his body since his days in junior college …

Weakness: Average runner of the court, and although improving, could affect his stock in the draft … Has a tendency to put the ball on the floor when posting up instead of keeping the ball high - this has cost him a few turnovers … Lacks explosiveness to continue as a shot blocker on the next level … Offensively, his below average leaping ability also restricts most of his play below the rim despite his height … Although improved greatly, his range could stand to expand, as well as the development of greater shooting consistency … Lacks the court vision to recognize double teams and pass out of double teams from the low post … Overall play can suffer when he doesn’t get enough rest during game due to his stamina … Is prone to mental breakdowns, which at times may be due to being winded … Despite his ability to draw contact from opposing defenders, Gransberry lacks the touch to convert at the free throw line … Post up game shows promise, but he must continue to add more to his arsenal … Although listed at 6-9, upon appearance Gransberry looks to be around 6-7 to 6-8; combined with his subpar athleticism, this may be cause for concern at the power forward position in the NBA …
