Strengths: Highly competitive player who wants to win every game … Solid ball handler who has no problem bringing the ball up the court … Possesses legit three point range on his jumper … Demonstrates good body control on his drives, and most importantly, has the upper body strength to absorb contact and finish at times … Once at the free throw line he has no problem converting … His strength allows him to make difficult shots look easy, such as step back three point shots or extremely long shots … Work ethic is top notch, a definite gym rat in every sense of the word that constantly works on his game … Plays the game with the intensity level you love to see … Fearless shooter with tremendous confidence … Has a quick release that allows him to shoot over most defenders he plays against with ease … Explosive scorer who can put up points in a hurry when he gets hot … Feel for the game is solid … Savvy player who understands how to draw fouls from opposing defenders … Owns a nice change of speed dribble that he uses to get past defenders … Brings a good level of toughness and doesn’t back down … Underrated athlete who is a better leaper than what most people give him credit for … Despite his height, McKiver is a solid rebounder … Defensively, he has quick hands and above average lateral quickness …
Weaknesses: Tends to take some highly questionable shots during games that leave you scratching your head … Most notably, he settles for some difficult three point attempts … Could benefit from concentrating on taking a few more dribbles to utilize the mid-range shot … Gets impatient offensively, needs to let the game come to him instead of rushing himself and forcing the action … Might have some problems creating in the lane on the next level due to his average arm length … This tends to hinder him when driving to the basket against players with length … Will enter the NBA as a tweener to some degree due to the fact that he lacks the ideal height of a shooting guard and doesn’t have the court vision or experience playing point guard … Shows good effort defending on the perimeter but still needs to work on improving … Tends to favor going right on drives during games … His shooter’s mentality could make him a difficult prospect to move to point guard, but to his credit he isn’t a selfish player … Would benefit greatly if he focused a little more on attacking the basket instead of settling for perimeter shots …
