Fields played for John Chaney at Cheyney University. Andrew led Cheyney to the 1978 NCAA Division II National Championship, where he was named as the Most Outstanding Player of the National Championship Tournament. He would go on to be named as the 1979 ECAC Player of the Year and was inducted into the Cheyney University Hall of Fame in 1987.

As a professional, Andrew was drafted by the Portland Trailblazers in the second round of the NBA draft in 1979. He enjoyed a long professional career, with over 18 years experience in NBA, PBA and FIBA leagues. Among his career highlights, in Europe Andrew played for Versoix BasketClub, Basket Club Lugano, Bellinzona Basket Club in Switzerland, and Racing Paris Basket Club & Nantes Basket Club in France.

Andrew graduated from Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, Cheyney, Pa., with a B.S. degree and lives in Atlantic City, NJ.
