2007 Pre-Draft Scouting Report by Matthew Maurer

Assets
Above average runner of the floor … Confident player who will not back down from a challenge …Possesses a NBA body capable of matching the physicality of most forwards … Tough-nosed player who will fight and hustle for everything … Post defense is decent as he does a good job of denying opposing players position in the lane … Has an enforcer type attitude with a mean streak … Decent finisher around the basket where he is physical enough to promote contact to draw fouls … Has the potential to develop his skill set … Above average rebounder in his area as he uses his body to effectively box out … Shows signs of an improving mid-range shot 14 feet from the perimeter … Back to the basket skills are developing, possesses a quality jump hook and turnaround … Decent hands that prevent him from dropping too many passes … Work ethic is reportedly very good … Laterally, he moves very well despite his size … When posted up uses his quick hands to poke the ball and reach over for steals when his assignment doesn’t properly seal him off …

Liabilities
Although a solid athlete he lacks explosiveness to be much of a force blocking shots … Appears to be a tad bit undersized, although listed at 6-10 appears closer to 6-8 … Conditioning could stand to be improved … Has a bad habit of putting the ball on the floor around the basket … Doesn’t always get wide in the post causing his teammates to throw difficult passes … Below average free throw shooter … Struggles to defend bigger and quicker forwards … Possesses an average wingspan which greatly limits his ability to be a great out of position rebounder … Needs to learn how to play defense without becoming too aggressive, making himself an easy target for foul calls … Post footwork could stand to be refined, is choppy with his movement in the paint … Doesn’t have the body type that suggests he can add more weight without sacrificing his already average athleticism …
