2007 Pre-Draft Scouting Report by Matthew Maurer

Assets
Active player who consistently moves without the ball in his hands … Decent ball handler who is good enough to play some point guard … Above average court vision allows him to make some sound passes … Has the ability to shoot the three point shot when his feet are set … Crafty scorer who understands how to get his shot off … Creative in the open court where he does a good job of using his length to finish … Excels setting up teammates on drives to the basket by dishing out to open shooters … Offers some versatility to teams as he can play 3 position with varying degrees of success … Solid rebounder who understands how to use his length and long arms … Plays very aggressive on offense, constantly looking for his shot … Understands the game on a high level …

Liabilities
Shooting mechanics have definitive flaws in that Mejia shoots with his elbow out … Perimeter shooting is very inconsistent … Doesn’t possess a great first step to gain full separation from his defender … It’s not uncommon for his defender to be on his hip as he drives the lane … Doesn’t play defense at a consistent intensity level … Does a lot of things well but fails to have a skill where he stands out … Must continue to work on ball protection as he has a habit of being careless with the ball … There are questions as to what position he will play; he’s too erratic for point guard and not explosive enough to defend shooting guards …Older than most players in his class at 24; some concern will be placed on his potential growth … Tends to get out of control on his drives to the basket … Tremendously poor free throw shooter for his position … Average athlete who doesn’t possess much explosives or quickness …
