2007 Pre-Draft Scouting Report by Matthew Maurer
Assets
For his size, Davidson has an impressive package of mobility and leaping ability … Despite his size he runs the court like a guard, able to keep up on fast breaks … Has shown the ability to hit the mid-range jumper out to 18 feet from the basket … Decent ball handler able to catch the ball in the high post and turnaround or face up and drive to the basket … Defensively Davidson shows quality shot blocking ability as his timing, long arms and quickness enable him to disrupt shots … Displays good touch on his shot as he is able to convert the jump hook from various spots on the court … Long arms and mobility allow for him to be an excellent out of position rebounder … Mental toughness and focus have been tested this year as he has endured a series of personal tragedies off the court … Potentially he is viewed has having a good deal of growth left to develop … Quality finisher around the basket due to athleticism which allows him to finish with flair … Great help defender whose mobility allows him to make his presence felt from the weak side … Body type suggests he should be able to add weight without sacrificing much athleticism …
Liabilities
Strength is a major question mark for him; must add a good deal of weight and upper body strength to his frame … Back to the basket moves are quite unrefined outside of his jump hook … Defensively allows his assignment to gain good post position without much of a fight … Has a tendency to get easily out muscled for rebounding position because he doesn’t box his man out effectively … Needs to be more assertive, tends to play passive at times and will defer to teammates … Lack of body strength makes him prone to struggling to finish after contact occurs … Doesn’t really have a true position … While his skill set would suggest a power forward, his body and lack of post moves could make it difficult for him … To compound matters the lack of perimeter shooting and ability to create offense for himself would make the transition to small forward troublesome … Shot selection has been questionable as he will often settle for mid-range jumpers instead of getting closer to the basket …
