Draft Note: Reggie Harding's selection was upheld by the NBA despite playing high school and the objections raised by several NBA teams. The Detroit Pistons kept Harding's rights after reaching an agreement with the NBA that they defer Harding’s entrance into the NBA for a year. The Pistons won their claim of Harding using an archaic NBA rule. That rule was any player who does not enter college for a full year is eligible for the draft. That eligibility is contingent on that players' high school class graduating. Harding played a prep year at Nashville Christian Institute in Tennessee. During this time his high school class in Detroit graduated two months before he was drafted. So, the Pistons felt he qualified for the exemption and ultimately convinced the NBA.
