2003 Scouting Report:
Strengths: Plays the game with confidence and a never say die attitude that GM's love ... Excellent shooter when his feet are set behind the three point line ... Possess a solid basketball IQ in the he reads defenses and understands how to adjust his game accordingly ... Shows good enough court vision to make decent passes to open teammates ...Really works well off screens and picks as they allow enough time for him to get his shot off or slash to the basket... Scrappy player who will dive on the floor for loose balls ... Tough minded player who isn't afraid to crash the glass for rebounds ... Ball handling ability and speed enable him to run the fast break effectively ... Moves well with out the ball... Creative scorer who will use a number of tricks to get off his shot... Great body that is NBA ready and strong enough to withstand the rigors of an 82 game schedule ... A solid mid-range shooter from 18 feet... Savvy player who does a great job of drawing contact from his defender to get free throw opportunities ... Versatile enough to playing both backcourt positions with some effectiveness ...
Weakness: Defensively English will have to improve on his lateral quickness to cover the athletic guards of the NBA ... Fails to finish consistently after he penetrates to the basket... Ball handling is solid but if he is to play point guard on the next level he will have to upgrade ... Tends to get caught up in the moment and attempt flashy plays ... Doesn't possess the explosiveness in his first step to slash to the basket... Shot selection isn't all that great as he can force risky shots ... Free throw shooting can be streaky at times .. Ball protection will need to be improved as he can get careless with the ball... Leadership skills have shown growth but are still developing ... Mid- range shooting can go through periods of inconsistency ... Shooting mechanics may need some tweaking as his shot has a slow release ... There are some questions if he will be able to get his shot off against the NBA's athletic shooting guards ... Doesn't create off the dribble that well although to his credit English has improved...
