2003 Scouting Report:

Strengths: Has a nice soft touch around the basket and uses an assortment of short turnaround jumpers and hook shots to score ... Does a good job of getting open on the blocks by keeping his body wide and using his weight to get into good position ... Takes up great space in the lane at 7-1 285 pounds, not many players can overpower him ... Decent shot-blocker that does a good job as a help defender... Once an offensive player commits to going in the lane Marcus uses his excellent timing to either redirect shots or get the block... Excellent work ethic which is mainly responsible for his remarkable ascent to the player he is now ... Excellent rebounder who uses good technique to seal his man off and is blessed with good hands to engulf any boards that might come his way ... For a player his size he runs the court fairly well... Despite only playing organized ball for 4 years, Marcus has surprisingly good post footwork ... Has a good body that can absorb contact and draw fouls when in the lane ...

Weakness: Still learning the fundamentals of the game ... Doesn't really have much of a face up game and could stand to expand his shooting range out to 14 feet... Athleticism is somewhat limited as he doesn't get off the floor that quickly, so one has to wonder how this will effect him in terms of rebounding and shot-blocking in the NBA ... Doesn't recognize double teams which really hurts because when they occur he lacks the passing ability to pass out of them without resulting into a turnover... Lateral quickness is still a step behind although this has greatly improved ... While he draws contact (fouls) in the lane, Marcus lacks free throw shooting ability to take full advantage of it... Has a bad habit of keeping the ball low after an offensive rebound or catching a lob in the post enabling smaller players to get a swipe at the ball... Development was hindered due to his lack of mobility that was the caused by his foot injury ... Will he be injury prone?
