pacellis-morlende The Draft Review - Pacellis Morlende philadelphia The Draft Review - Pacellis Morlende

2003 Scouting Report:

Strengths: Extremely athletic guard who possesses great quickness and leaping ability ... Shows great body control to contort his body in the lane to finish ... Really looks to push the fast break when he gets the ball... Despite his height and the fact that he is often out of position, Morlende is a solid rebounder... Great free throw shooter... When playing perimeter defense he shows above average lateral movement to stay with most players ... Has decent but still evolving court vision to see most players on the court ... Vocal floor general who shows solid command of the floor... Really understands how to attack the defense and draw double teams for the dish to open teammates ... Possesses a great first step enabling separation from his defender... Has 3-point range on his jumper off the dribble ... Tough minded player who isn't intimidated by physical contact ...Can be quite creative in the open court where he can make some flashy plays .. Has a well rounded basketball IQ that continues to develop with time ... Unselfish, really looks to set-up teammates first... Aggressive driver who can draw a number of fouls from his defender... Not a bad decision maker when leading the fast break as he can dish off or finish with no difficulty ...

Weakness: Morlende is still mentally a shooting guard ... Although he has greatly improved on some aspects, there are a few that need refinement... Like most young point guards he still needs to learn how to control the tempo of a game ... Has a bad habit of getting careless with the ball on his penetrations ... Doesn't always play defense with great intensity or effort... Remains an inconsistent shooter from mid-range especially when he has to pull-up off the dribble ... Tends to leave his feet too early and make risky passes before his teammates are ready ... Doesn't always play under control as he can be a target for offensive charges on his drives ... For a guard he doesn't consistently move without the ball too often as he will just stand and watch ... Confidence in his game can lessen if he starts out shaky ... Defensively he needs to put his quick hands to good use by playing the passing lanes better...
