As I entered my first day in the dormatory at shipley
hall at brandywine college,I was directed to my room
where I was greeted by a very distinguished gentleman
that stood 6ft 8inches tall, and said to me I am your roomate Kenny. He was so tall in those days, and I just knew that he was a very good basketball player,
not knowing that his older brother was too.Kenny brought with him, another very good basketball player
that he referred to as "THE TINMAN".THE TINMAN was one of the best basketball players that I have ever
witnessed,in the facinating game of basketball.THE
TINMAN wasn't a tall man,but he could jump higher than a man 6ft 8inches.Play the game as a true master
with the guidence of BIG KENNY HANKINSON,THE ABSOLUTE
BEST JUMPING CENTER,THAT EVER LIVED.Kenny Hankinson
treated me just like his brother BIG PHIL HANKINSON.
I absolutly adored the game of basketball, from a small town in Pennsylvania, called Coatesville,Pa.I went to every game as a kid,and watched our RED RAIDERS always be true champions. The good ole days of
Eugene Brown, one of our greatest centers, that the school ever had.He was a Quiet Man,and before our championship game, with Cheltenham at the Polestra,I went up to him and wished him luck, stating to him you are the very best that Coatesville has ever had,and then said to him,two words "GET AGRESSIVE"
and he looked at me,strait in the eye,and said,THEIR
BIG AND FAST,BUT WE CAN HANDLE THEM,very calmly. We won that championship year,in a dog fight, and Eugene
was heading for the locker, turned to me and said to me,NOT AGRESSIVLY,BUT EASILY!Those words always stuck
with me,as I watched Big KENNY HANKINSON,AND THE TINMAN capture the title for Brandywine. You didn't have to say anything to Kenny, and The TinMan,they knew the game and they new each other. These two magicians on the court, kept the grandstands hoppin at all times.Always calm, but when they hit the court
they knew how to make the game of basketball into a show. They were two showman, that people loved to watch
play a sport that they truely loved,as well as each
other.Getting back to Kennys brother,I never new that Big PHIL HANKINSON,was KENNYS big brother. How I knew is before Kenny arrived,a towering fine gentleman approached me at our dorm room, and said to me,make sure that he is ok,and well taken care of at"ALL TIMES" in which I did my very best. Here all the time it was "BIG PHIL HANKINSON".Not until years later did I know who that distinguished Big Man truely was.Kennys brother I made sure, that I always
cheered for in his entire professional career, knowing
that he was my main man Kennys, older brother. We will leave you with this Momento from the past.Basketball
would not be a fun game to watch without the showmanship of these fine talents, that make the game
exciting, just by doing what they do the very best, loving the crowd, and truely loving each other, and best of all"THE GAME ITSELF"
ALL OF MY VERY BEST TO ALL OF YOU,
ELLIOT B. RIEBMAN
