2003 Scouting Report:

Strengths: Possess supreme athleticism ... Few players in the country have the combination of speed, power, and leaping ability of Jones ... Excels in the open court or fast break where his explosiveness makes for spectacular dunks ... Has an NBA ready body that enables him to take contact in the lane and draw fouls ... Defensively he has the capacity to be a standout due to excellent lateral quickness and solid anticipation skills ... Moves so well without the ball that he is a constant threat for an alley-oop ... When defended tightly his quick first step enables him to gain good separation from his defender... Plays with a great deal of intensity and emotion wants to win every game ... Is a better shooter when his feet are set as he squares his body up ... Owns cat like body control that is essential for a slasher as he can make adjustments in the air depending on how the defense plays him ... Above average rebounder due to his athleticism and hustle ... Due to his explosiveness he is a great finisher around the basket...

Weakness: The biggest area of concern for Jones is that he is a below average shooter from the perimeter... Ball protection could stand improvement as he can be turnover prone ... Let's his emotions get the best of him which can lead to quick fouls ... Doesn't have the court vision needed to create scoring opportunities for his teammates ... Not a threat from three point range. Opposing teams often back off him and dare him to take the 3-point shot... Struggles to hit the jumper off the dribble where he remains terribly inconsistent... Still tends to make bad judgments on the court ... Doesn't always use his size and strength to his advantage when guarded by smaller defenders ... Ball handling is average at best. He simply hasn't needed to improve in this area due to Duke's solid group of guards over the past two year's but will have to in the NBA ... Many have feel his game hasn't grown as much as expected when he first transferred from Rutgers ...
