2001 NBA Draft

trenton-hassell 2001 NBA Draft - The Draft Review chicago 2001 NBA Draft - The Draft Review

2001 Scouting Report:

Strengths: Who said small schools don't produce NBA caliber players ... Hassell has a very impressive all around game as evident by the fact that he recorded one triple double this year and several times came close to achieving the feat again ... Rebounds well in the paint ... Able to recognize double teams pass out of them ... Has become a descent perimeter shooter from about 22 ft and in with some consistency ... Loves to drive to the basket from the baseline usually off a spin move or facing the basket ... Can penetrate and dish better than most shooting guards in the nation ... Has a still evolving post up game that he uses when his jumper isn't failing ... Good free throw shooter who will make you pay if you foul him ... Really can get hot from the 3-point line in a hurry and erupt on any defense ...

Weakness: Biggest question facing Hassell is can he make that switch from the small Ohio Valley Conference to the NBA ... At this point not much of a defender but then again how many NBA rookies are good defenders in there first year ... Perimeter shooting while improved must continue to be worked on, as at times it can be streaky ... Needs to work on being a better spot up jump shooter as of right now he is only comfortable shooting of the dribble or driving in the lane ... Can he make the metal switch form small forward to shooting guard ...

roots 2001 NBA Draft - The Draft ReviewCousins: Jabari Smith, Jabari Smith Jr.

2001 Scouting Report:

Strengths: Versatile player has the ability to shoot the ball inside and out ... Super athletic runs the floor, jumps out the gym, and has very good quickness ... Good rebounder due in part to his quick leaping ability and long wingspan ... Can handle the basketball very well like a guard and can even lead the fast break ... Good passer recognizes double teams well and makes quick adjustments ... Very good shot-blocker can cover a lot of area ... Can make the 17 foot jumper with some consistency and has even shown the ability to shot off the dribble ... Has a nice soft touch around the basket ... Unlike most young players Brown understands what he can and can't do ...

Weakness: Not very comfortable playing with his back to the basket has a tendency to rush himself ... Although Brown has a good body he could use more upper body strength ... Post footwork still goes through periods were it can be choppy ... Falls in love with his jumper sometimes he settles for playing outside instead of mixing it up inside ... Low post offense is still developing although not bad but far from being consistent ... Has a habit of going for every shot that comes around him needs to learn how to be more disciplined on defense ... Hasn't really played against a high level of competion in high school ...

omar-cook 2001 NBA Draft - The Draft Review orlando 2001 NBA Draft - The Draft Review

2001 Scouting Report:

Strengths: Leader and catalyst for St. John's this past season ... NBA ready body that is strong and slightly stocky but not overly so ... Laser quick first step that he uses to gain penetration to the basket, once there he has no problem finishing with either a lay-up or kicking the ball out to a open teammate ... Quick hands enable him to get easy steals so opposing point guards will need to protect the ball ... Good playmaker who is unselfish and loves to go for the flashy pass to get the crowd excited ... Very confident in his ability feels that he is one of the best points in the country ... Best thing going for Cook is that he is equally proficient in passing whether it's a half court offense or a fast break offense ...

Weakness: Has worked on his long-range jumper but it is far from being consistent ... Turnovers really are a problem but this is a result of his decision making not being mature, often these turnovers accrued when Cook tried to rush things ... There have been grumblings in the past about Cook's attitude some have said that he's a pampered crybaby while I don't believe everything I do think it's safe to say that he isn't the most mature kid ... Shot selection is very questionable took some shots during the season that maybe he should have passed on ... Isn't much of a 3-point threat something that will be a must for him to work on ...
